Your Guide to November
Updated: Nov 7, 2019

It’s November in East Texas!
Are you thankful you are an artist, musician or general creative in a small town or underdeveloped artistic community? Maybe you’ve never thought about it…but here are several reasons you should be counting your blessing you are contributing to the arts in East Texas. First, East Texas communities are vibrant with life, color, and character. The many cities, towns, and communities that make up East Texas give creatives room to grow without the hefty price tag of living in Austin or Portland. Many cities like Tyler and Nacogdoches are budding artistic centers that promote art and culture for their growing Millennial residences.
Second, East Texas is the perfect platform if you are trying to start or propel your career as an artist. Regardless of if you are a painter, musician or poet, East Texas will cultivate your talents in a distinct community of like-minded people. You just need to meet these people! That is why etx creatives has launched a monthly calendar, which makes it easier to find creative events for connecting.
Lastly, do not be afraid to make your mark defining East Texas as the next cultural oasis. Samantha West writes in her article How Artists Are Changing Small-Town America, that the future in small-town fine art is to, “invest time and talent into the place you call home; a place where museums and galleries do not line the city center but where art is rich, rooted, and alive.” Read the rest of her article at http://prestonsburgky.org/how-artists-are-changing-small-town-america/.
